Edgewood
INSIDER
Winter 2006
By Carson Marcus
(Entertainment stylist and Indy film fan)
HELLO ALL! Here I am again with all the inside
dope on the 'wood. My name is Carson Marcus, one of Edgewood Studio's
biggest fans. For those of you who don't know, I have been given the
honor of being the "blogger" for Edgewood Fans. As promised I am keeping
you updated at least quarterly and hopefully soon, monthly with the goings
on at Edgewood Studios – here goes…
The population of Edgewood seems to have
skyrocketed with all the frantic Post-Production going on to get both
"ZOMBIE TOWN" and "ILLEGAL ALIENS" to the screen to meet DVD release
dates and well, Supreme Court dates. It’s no secret that ANNA NICOLE
SMITH has a date with the Supreme Court in Feb., with a ruling from them
to follow possibly in June. As Anna stars in "ILLEGAL ALIENS" along with JOANIE
"CHYNNA" LAURER, Edgewood is planning to release the film at the
height of the publicity surrounding the case. Of course there always
seems to be publicity surrounding ANNA NICOLE and CHYNNA so what is the
big rush?
Oh, I got to see a scene of
“ILLEGAL ALIENS” edited
too and while I am forbidden to say anything about the plot, the scenes
I saw were both satirical and HILARIOUS! Think of “Men in Black” meets
“Charlie’s Angels” meets “Airplane!”

While I was at the studio, TOBY FITCH, Edgewood's
new Director of Operations proudly showed off to me Edgewood's newest
upgrades in its post-production facility; POST MONSTERS. They now have
totally upgraded, re-engineered and re-designed Edgewood's PRO-TOOLS Mix
Suite and have added a second HD (High Definition) Final Cut Pro Post
edit suite. Both are State-Of-The-Art, with the newest hardware and
software available. (It made my head spin when Toby started talking
about the tech stuff to me, but to me it looks like the bridge of the
starship Enterprise in the Mix Suite! I actually commanded “Engage, Mr.
Crusher” while sitting at the studio’s client desk. But Mr. Fitch, a
veteran of some of New York City’s biggest Ad agencies, was un-amused…)
Sad to report that the on-again, off-again plans
for a sequel to “Time Chasers” are back on hold. The word from inside
the studio is that the development of the sequel script is “just not up
to par yet” for Director David Giancola. And I will confirm again that
NO, LISA KUDROW did not make a cameo in “Time Chasers”.
“ICE QUEEN” has been a hit at video stores and
everyone at the studio is quite proud of the finished film. The reviews
have been pretty good, but Director NEIL KINSELLA was quite miffed when
a review mentioned his conspicuous absence from the Audio Commentary of
the film. Since Neil was busy in Los Angeles on another project,
Producer David Giancola had him literally “phone in” his comments from
the set of another film about an hour into the film. It occurred to Neil
that the reviewer had never bothered to watch the whole film before
writing his opinion since the reviewer would have to have watched at
least an hour of the film to know he DID take part in the commentary
track. SHAME on you Mr. Reviewer! (you know who you are and so do many
others) I read it too. Mr. Reviewer, I suggest you actually WATCH the
films you comment on in the future. It is called credibility….
I suggest you check out a (believe-it-or not)
non-Edgewood produced film; “The Man With The Screaming Brain” Starring
and Directed by BRUCE CAMPBELL (from Edgewood's
hit “ICEBREAKER”) who enlisted another cast member he met on the set of
“Icebreaker”; STACY KEACH, who plays a mad scientist. Though we
generally do not support glaring examples of “runaway production” like
this film, which was shot in an eastern block country where they can
pay the crew pennies on the dollar, thereby taking good jobs from the
U.S. film industry, we are fans of both Bruce and Stacy. Though they
both do a good job with the film, the production values show the lack
of an experienced crew and resources.
While not picking on
either Stacy or Bruce, (they really are just working actors)…
WHEN ARE THE ACTORS AND DIRECTORS WHO MAKE TENS OF
MILLIONS OF DOLLARS PER PICTURE GOING TO STAND UP FOR THE CREWS IN THIS
COUNTRY WHO MAKE OFTEN 1/1000TH OF THAT AMOUNT AND DEMAND
MORE PRODUCTIONS STAY IN THE U.S.?! Don't get me wrong; Directors like
Peter Jackson have done great things in places like New Zealand, his
home country. But can you tell me TOM CRUISE can’t demand where he
shoots his films? Would he REALLY miss a few million at this point? Tom,
why not jump on Oprah’s couch about that? Many film workers in this
country can’t even afford the heath care plans offered by their own
Unions! (because they cannot get enough work.)
Maybe it's time the Church of Scientology puts its
money where its mouth is and “suggest” their actor/devotees (half of
Hollywood) support the country that has so well supported them.
Whoh! Sorry for the rant but too many of our
friends in New England have lost careers and even homes over the issue
of “runaway production”…
“SUPERMAN RETURNS” has announced a June 06' release
date. The film stars KATE BOSWORTH, who got her start in the Edgewood
feature; “The Newcomers” in the plum role of Lois Lane. Look for her
also on the cover of the January “PREMIERE” magazine and heck, all over
the media right now. The tabloids seem to have had a field day with her
long-time romance with ORLANDO BLOOM.
Imagine a hot summer night enjoying a classic film
outside with the community in a small Vermont town… Well, another
summer is coming up and that brings another season of “FLICKS DOWNTOWN”,
a partnership with Edgewood Studios and the Downtown Rutland Partnership
to bring free movies shown outdoors to Rutland, Vermont residents and
tourists while the concessions offered with the films benefit a local
charity (last year it was the Boy's
& Girls Club of Rutland). It is part of Edgewood's on-going mission to give back the community while
reminding residents of the value of the economic benefits of film
production, but all I really care about is that it is a ton of fun. AND
IT'S TIME TO PICK THE MOVIES FOR THE SUMMER 06' SEASON AND WE WANT YOUR
SUGGESTIONS!
E-mail them to
(while Edgewood does not have the last
word on what is shown, all suggestions will all be considered).
And as always, please, let me know what any tidbits
YOU have to share about Edgewood and it’s films, cast and crew from
around the world. We would love to hear from you, send to
and she will get all notes to me.
Thanks and have a great winter, if you are looking
for a great vacation right now, get to Vermont, the skiing at both
nearby Killington and Pico Ski Resorts is phenomenal right now!
